Erik ten Hag’s reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo move

Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has spoken for the first time since Cristiano Ronaldo made a shock transfer to Saudi Pro League (SPL) giants Al Nassr.

The 37-year-old signed a two-year-deal with the Saudi Pro League giant on Friday.

Ronaldo was not in good terms with the Netherlands mentor.

He was dropped several times, often coming from the bench.

And just before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, which led to his contract being terminated by the Red Devils.

ERIK TEN HAG REACTS TO RONALDO TRANSFER

“I don’t talk about the past, let’s talk about the future. We have to win games, it’s the first time we are in the top four,” ten Hag told reporters.

“But it means nothing because there is a long way to go. Many games are coming up, we have to live from game to game, we have to win every game.”

The Dutch mentor was criticised on New Year’s Eve for benching in-form Marcus Rashford.

The striker came in late as a substitute against Wolverhampton Wanderers and scored the only goal of the match.

The England forward admitted to his mistake that led to him being dropped.

“Obviously it’s team rules. I made a mistake. That can happen. I’m obviously disappointed not to play but I understand the decision.

“I’m happy we managed to win anyway. We draw a line under it and move on. I was a little bit late for a meeting, but it can happen,” he added.

Ronaldo had made 21 appearances in all competitions with five goals and four assists to his name this season before leaving Man United.
