Bafana’s Lakay fails to save Pyramids from Al Ahly humiliation

Bafana Bafana striker Fagrie Lakay could not save Pyramids FC from losing 3-0 to hosts Al Ahly on Monday evening.

Fagrie Lakay has been in scintillating form of late with Pyramids in the Egyptian Premier League match.

The former Cape Town City attacker Fagrie Lakay went to Cairo International Stadium in buoyant mood.

The South African had scored then won the Man-of-the-Match award for Pyramids in their 3-0 victory over Ittihad last week.

However, Fagrie Lakay struggled to find his way past the steady Al Ahly defence.

Al Ahly started the game knowing that then leaders Zamalek had lost 2-1 to Aswan in an earlier kick-off.

AL AHLY MADE THE MOST OF ZAMALEK SLIP UP

The Marcel Koller’s Al Ahly made the most of the advantage to return to the top.

Emr Solia gave Al Ahly a dream start to the game when he scored a double.

Solia scored in the 19th minute and 69th minutes of the game.

The cause of Pyramids was not helped either by their own defender Ahmed Samy’s own goal.

Al Ahly finally breathed a sigh of relief to win for the first time in three league games.

The Reds had drawn twice in those three games which cost them a place at the summit of the log table.

AL AHLY WERE STILL WITHOUT PERCY TAU DUE TO INJURY

Al Ahly were without South African forward Percy Tau who picked an injury three weeks ago.

Tau suffered the latest injury misfortune just when he was getting back into his usual scoring form.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion winger Tau will be sidelined for a month.

Monday’s result saw Pyramids still placed fourth on the log table.

In an earlier game, Zamalek had gone top on goal-aggregate before Monday’s setback that saw them back to position two following the defeat at the hands of Aswan.

Mohamed Ghani’s own goal handed Aswan a surprise lead four minutes into the contest.

Leonardo Kamone added the second goal two minutes into added time of the first-half.

Zamalek pulled one through Hossam Abdelmaguid in the 56th minute.
