Erik ten Hag reluctant to recall Ivorian youngster Amad Diallo

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed his stance on recalling Amad Diallo, who is on a season-long loan at Sunderland.

The Ivorian centre-forward has found the back of the net on six occasions in 11 starts for Sunderland, having joined them last year in August.

Despite the Red Devils having a recall option, the Dutch mentor is keen on signing a striker instead of recalling the 20-year-old forward, who has impressed many people during his loan spell at the Championship side.

His stellar performances at Sunderland had Man United fans backing Diallo’s comeback at Old Trafford.

ERIK TEN HAG SPEAKS…

“We consider everything, but I have a little bit of reservation about [recalling Amad] because I don’t want to stop the process,” said Ten Hag, as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“He has made good progress there, so I’m happy with that.”

AMAD DIALLO STILL NEEDS MORE EXPERIENCE ACCORDING TO TEN HAG

Ten Hag said the youngster still needs to accumulate experience before returning to the club.

“But young players need experiences, and when we decide for him to come back he has to be a player who can compete for the starting XI or, minimum, to come on for a lot of games and make an impact.

Ten Hag continued: “Because at that moment, I didn’t see him in the starting XI or a player who had already had an impact,” Ten Hag said of the decision to let Amad leave on loan.

“But I see and value and his potential and capabilities. What I saw is that he needs experience in men’s football and senior football.

“I think there are many aspects of football to get strong physically and mentally, and also skills-wise, to improve and develop that so he can have value for us.”
