Lessons Royal AM have learnt in CAF Confederation Cup
Royal AM coach Khabo Zondo has revealed the lessons his team learnt after participating in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The KZN outfit, however, had a disastrous campaign as they were knocked out of the competition in the playoffs just before the group stages.
Thwihli Thwahla defeated Eswatini’s Mbabane Highlanders 2-0 in the first preliminary round and won against ZESCO United of Zambia on away goal rule in the second preliminary round.
They then lost 3-0 on aggregate against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe.
WHAT ROYAL AM LEARNED IN THE CONFED CUP
“It [CAF Confederation Cup] taught us a number of things that we should be able to apply in this competition. Mentally, the players are a little bit stronger,” said Zondo.
“They [players] know besides talented and technically gifted, you need to work a bit hard, harder than what you have done before.
“It has helped us in terms of organisation, how many chances you get that you should be burying. We create those chances.”
WHY ROYAL AM WON’T SIGN PLAYERS IN THE JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Zondo further revealed that they wouldn’t be bringing any new players during the mid-season transfer window, which opened on 1 January 2023.
“For now, nothing that we are looking at because we believe these players are capable. It’s just unfortunate that we are not winning games,” added Zondo.
“Again, you try to look for someone who will come in at this time where he’s going to gel with the players. The type of football that we play needs a play that will gel as quickly as possible.”
Meanwhile, Royal AM extended their winless run to three matches in the DStv Premiership as they were held to a goalless draw by TS Galaxy on Tuesday evening.
