It’s going to go down to the wire, Arthur Zwane on the title race

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane believes the 2022/23 DStv Premiership title race will go down to the wire.

Zwane is of the same view as Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Rulani Mokwena who said the league has never been won in January.

This comes after comments made by Swallows FC coach Ernst Middendorp saying Masandawana have already retained their title following a two-nil loss on Tuesday.

The Tshwane giants sit comfortably at the summit of the log standings with a seven-point gap lead from second-placed SuperSport United.

WHAT ZWANE THINKS ABOUT THE TITLE RACE

According to Zwane, the title will be decided on the last day as there are other teams doing well in the league.

“There are still 16 games to play for. SuperSport United, Richards Bay and Mamelodi Sundowns are doing well. I believe it’s going to go down to the wire,” Zwane told the media.

“I will concur with Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena who said the league has never been won in January.”

WHAT CHIEFS MUST DO TO GO TO TOP

Zwane believes his side stands a chance to be on top and challenge for the title this season. He stated one thing they need to focus on to keep track.

“Our focus right now is about ourselves, in as much as we want to kill two or three birds with one stone. We need to know what we want to achieve first. So far, so good.

“We don’t want to split our focus, we take it one game at a time, and every game we play, we play for maximum points.

“We just hope all the remaining games we’ll be able to grind the results and be up there, compete with the best,” he added.

The Soweto giants will be aiming to continue with the winning ways when they host Sekhukhune United on Saturday. On New Year’s Eve, they defeated Golden Arrows 2-0 away from home.

Kickoff at FNB Stadium is at 8pm.
