Sekhukhune’s Cardoso on playing ex-club Kaizer Chiefs

Sekhukhune United defender Daniel Cardoso says they will not require any extra motivation for the DStv Premiership match against his former side Kaizer Chiefs.

The 34-year-old centre-back will take on his former employers for the first time since he turned his back on Naturena when his contract expired in June last year.

Amakhosi will knock themselves out to secure a victory, as they’ll be celebrating their 53rd birthday on the day.

Cardoso says his side needs no extra motivation, knowing they’ll face off against the mighty Glamour Boys.

CARDOSO ON FACING FORMER EMPLOYERS CHIEFS

“It’s a big game, a big team, as I said before when I spoke about Pirates, when you come up against Chiefs, Pirates, Sundowns, the motivation is already there, you don’t need extra motivation,” Cardoso told Sekhukhune United media.

“I think players are hungry; players wanna prove a point, younger players are looking for contracts.

“So, it’s going to be an exciting game. I believe it’s the 53rd birthday [for Chiefs], and the ticket prices have gone down to R30.

“You can expect a decent crowd there, and I think most of the players haven’t played in the massive crowd.

“So that’s an extra bit of motivation, so going into the game, I think the mood is good.

“They [Chiefs] didn’t play in the midweek, so they’ve had more time to rest.

“It’s a bit of a factor, but I think the energy, the boys’ passion will be in there, and they know what’s at stake.”

After 14 games, Babina Noko have accumulated 15 points and occupy 12th place in the DStv Premiership standings.

Cardoso says they’re concerned with their position, and while they’d be content with the draw, a win would be a bonus for them.

BABINA NOKO CONCERNED WITH THE POSITION ON THE LOG

“We are lying towards the bottom of the table, and we have to come out at slump. If we can get the point away, it would be a good result for us,” he added.

“And I think three points would be much better to take us away from that shuffle that’s happening at the bottom.”

The match is scheduled to take place at the FNB Stadium on Saturday at 20:00.
