Why Linda Mntambo has been missing in action
Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo has not featured for the club since the resumption of the domestic season in 2020 December after the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.
Mntambo suffered an injury while training with his teammates.
He missed Sekhukhune’s DStv Premiership 0-0 draw against AmaZulu as well as the club’s hard-fought 3-2 win in the Limpopo derby against Marumo Gallants on Tuesday.
LINDA MNTAMBO WILL NOT BE RUSHED BACK
Banina Noko coach Brandon Truter says the club will not rush the club captain back into action as it might be a risk.
“Yah, he is still nursing an injury. Right now he is in the final phases (of recovery), we will have to test him as well,” said Truter.
“Rushing him in action might break him down and be lost for the season. There are still a lot of games, the second round of the season has not started yet.
“So we would like to be absolutely 100% sure with having him ready. But he is in his final phase of recovery,” he added.
TRUTER HAILS HIS ATTACKERS
“I think there are goals for all my attackers at the moment. Looking back at the previous games as well, they scored in about 10 of the 12 games so there are goals in the team.
“It’s what keeps them out. I am not too happy with the goals that we conceded tonight. so it’s something that we have to work on.
“But yeah, there are definitely goals in Ohizu, Letsoalo; we still have Mabasa in there. Vusi as well.
“So it’s where it’s going to come from but my major concern tonight is how we conceded these goals.”
Sekhukhune are two points below the top eight spot. They will travel to FNB Stadium next for an encounter with Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
They are still not safe from the relegation spot as they are just four points above bottom placed Maritzburg United.
