Fagrie Lakay has new coach at Pyramids FC in Egypt

South African striker Fagrie Lakay has a new coach at the Egyptian Premier League side, Pyramids FC.

Fagrie Lakay will now work under new Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco. The Bafana Bafana forward Fagrie Lakay should be hoping for better fortunes with Pacheco.

The Portuguese has replaced Greek manager Takis Gonias. Gonias had trust in Fagrie Lakay and made him Pyramids’ focal points of attack.

Gonias was fired following Pyramids’ humiliating 3-0 loss to Percy Tau’s Al Ahly in a league match.

The Greek coach presided over 39 games, winning 24 with 10 losses and five draws.

Gonias had rejoined Pyramids following his earlier stint with the team.

He had stepped in the shoes of Ehab Galal following his appointment as senior national football team coach for Egypt.

Gonias took Pyramids to the Egypt Cup semifinals twice and finished in second place behind league champions Zamalek last season.

However, the latest heavy defeat by Al Ahly proved to be the Greek mentor’s last straw.

Pyramids management has opted to bring on board the 64-year-old Pacheco. The Portuguese mentor has Egyptian football experience.

He earlier managed Zamalek in two spells. Meanwhile, the league holders Zamalek are now drifting out of the championship race after drawing 1-1 with strugglers El-Dakhelya on Thursday night.

The result did not please Zamalek president Mortada Mansour, who, according to Egyptian football website KingFut, has threatened to withdraw his team from the Egyptian League.

The controversial Mansour accuses referees of being biased towards Al Ahly, who their match 2-0 over Enppi on Wednesday.

Al Ahly are now five points clear on the log table.

KingFut says Mansour has threatened the following:

1- Not participating in a farce led by the EFA with the Referees Committee, whose aim is to gift the competing club the league title.

2- Imposing a fine on all players at a value of 20% of their dues and suspending the dues for an indefinite period.

3- Suspending Ahmed Fatouh and Abdullah Gomaa, referring them for investigation, and conducting further analysis for them tomorrow to confirm that they are not infected with COVID-19.

4- Transfer-listing Ahmed Fetouh and Abdallah Gomaa.
