Uthongathi take no chances: Add team-building to Nedbank Cup preps
Uthongathi FC have added team-building to their preparations for Sunday’s meeting against in-form Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup preliminary round match.
The Cane Cutters hope the team-building sessions improve their performance in the must-win match at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
A statement from the Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Uthongathi, says the aim of the off-the-field sessions held during the week was for the players to bond.
TEAM-BUILDING MEANT TO HELP PLAYERS TO BOND
“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean,” the statement says.
“Today was all about team building and bonding as Uthongathi FC!”
The coach Papi Zothwane-led club said the team-building involved giving all players some assignments.
“Boys were randomly assigned to teams and given a task to complete.
“…and it was amazing to see how everyone came together and supported each other.”
“A huge thank you to our management for organizing this and helping us start the year on a stronger note,” the statement adds.
Uthongathi have been busy during the recent World Cup break. They played friendlies against DStv Premiership opposition such as Richards Bay.
UTHONGATHI RETURN TO LEAGUE ACTION IN MID-JANUARY
The Cane Cutters return to league action on January 15 when they face league leaders, Polokwane City.
The match will take place at the Princess Magogo Stadium, where the Rise and Shine hope to consolidate their lead.
Uthongathi are placed seventh on the log table, nine points behind Polokwane.
The KwaZulu-Natal-based Uthongathi have won four games, drawn five and lost twice in the league.
Up the table, the Rise and Shire are three points ahead of second-placed Casric Stars in a race that is proving to be tight.
Polokwane and Stars have played 12 games each and look to extend their leads in the next respective assignments.
Pretoria Callies FC are under serious threat of relegation, as they anchor the log table with eight points from 12 games.
