TS Galaxy a hard nut to crack: Steve Barker

Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker reckons TS Galaxy are a hard nut to crack as they hardly concede many goals.

Barker was speaking ahead of their DStv Premiership clash against the Rockets at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday evening [17:30].

He said the Mpumalanga outfit is a “difficult team to play against” given the excellent organisation at the back, especially playing with them on their turf.

GALAXY IS A TOUGH TEAM TO PLAY FOR STEVE BARKER…

“Galaxy are not an easy proposition. They’re a difficult team to play against, as seen by the goals against column,” Barker told Stellies’ media department.

“They don’t concede many goals, so it is important for us to go there with a good, positive attitude.”

Stellenbosch sits 14th on the log standings with 15 points after 14 games.

Whereas Galaxy are placed 11th on the table with 17 points from the same number of games played by their counterparts.

However, Barker insists that his troops are well prepared for this encounter as they aim to start the new year on a high note.

STELLENBOSCH’S READINESS FOR THE GAME…

“The preparations for this weekend’s game against TS Galaxy have gone well. We last played more than a week ago, so it’s given us an opportunity to regroup, and we’re looking forward to a massive year coming into 2023,” He added.

“It’s very important for us to get off to a positive start, and we have to play three matches in the coming week, so it’s a really important period for the team and for the club.”

The Cape club coach further stated they would take the positives from their previous game against Chippa United as he noticed that his side created more clear-cut chances but couldn’t convert them.

“I felt that our last performance against Chippa United was deserving of three points. We created numerous chances, and I thought that, especially in the first half, we were really good,” Barker explained.

“It was one of the best halves I’ve seen the team play, but, unfortunately, we just couldn’t carry it through in the second half, although we controlled the match for the majority of the game.”

He continued: “So, there is disappointment in that result, but if we can continue with that type of performance going into the game against Galaxy and just work on one or two areas to be better at, it will be good for us.

“It’s important that we start 2023 with maximum points away from home, and everybody is raring to go.”
