Mosimane’s side survive numerical disadvantage to force draw

Coach Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli Saudi survived numerical disadvantage to force at a 1-1 draw with Al Qadisiyah on Tuesday.

The result in the Saudi Arabian second-tier league match saw Al Ahli waste a chance to consolidate their promotion push.

However, Pitso Mosimane should be relieved that his side coped despite playing with a man short for the better part of the second-half.

Forward Simon Msuva scored the opening goal for the hosts, Al Qadisiyah, in the second minute to ignite celebrations from the partisan crowd.

It was the fourth league goal for the Tanzanian international with the Saudi Arabian side after having played eight matches.

The visitors, Al Ahli, had to come from behind to secure the point at Prince Saud Bin Jalawi Stadium in Khobar.

Hassan Al-Ali netted the equalizer in the 54th minute, according online media reports.

AL AHLI ARE EIGHT POINTS BEHIND LEAGUE LEADERS

The result saw Al Ahli taking their tally to 25 points from 14 games, eight points behind leaders Al Faisaly.

It was fifth league draw in nine games in which Pitso Mosimane has won three matches since he moved to the Saudi Arabia outfit mid last year.

Al Ahli management gave Mosimane a clear mandate that he must secured the club promotion to the Saudi Arabia Professional League.

The promotion prospects are still there for Al Ahli as they have a game in hand over their closest opponents.

However, the too many draws should begin to worry the South African Mosimane.

Nonetheless, the former Bafana Bafana boss remains undefeated in nine games since he joined the Jeddah-based second tier team.

PITSO MOSIMANE’S TEAM REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN SAUDI ARABIA

Al Ahli remain stuck in sixth position for some weeks now, after having won twice and drawn thrice in the last five consecutive league games.

Online media reports from Saudi Arabia indicate that Al Ahli finished the game with 10 men after Al Majrashi was shown a red card in the 44th minute.

Al Qadisiyah are in 13th position with 17 points from 14 matches.

Al Faisaly lead the table on 33 points from 15 matches whereas on the lower half, bottom-placed Al-Shoulla have 10 points from 15 outings.
