PSL star accused of running away with tournament prize money

A PSL player has been accused of vanishing with money meant to be a kasi tournament’s prize money in December.

The 2022 Edgar Manaka Foundation annual tournament champions, Rocks FC, have accused Marumo Gallants player Manaka of running away with their winner’s prize money.

Rocks FC, who are fed up with DStv Premiership player, Manaka, walked away with R 50 000 after winning the fourth edition of the tournament on 30 December 2022.

They claim they were promised the money would be paid into their account the same day.

But the tournament organisers gave them a run-around, and up to today, they have not received the money as promised.

The club leaders escalated the matter to the foundation chairman Edgar Manaka with no success.

“To this day, we haven’t received the full amount of our cash prize of R50 000,” said Sedupe Mamaregane, one of the three owners of Rocks FC.

EDGAR MANAKA CONFRONTED

The furious owners of the club have reportedly also confronted Manaka at a Gallants training session in Polokwane last week.

“We are left with no choice because of the lies and broken promises by the organisers,” added Mamaregane.

“We followed up with the organisers on several occasions and trusted their promises each and every time. But they failed to deliver.

“These types of shenanigans make players turn against their coaches and teams. They think we are the money when it is actually the poor administration of tournament organisers that is failing us.”

Mamaregane says the foundation has since deposited only R 21 000 into their account, which is less than 50% of what is required.

“On Thursday, 5 January 2023, R 21 000 was deposited into our account. Where is the rest of the money, you may ask?” he asked.

“The most painful thing is that the organisers are ignoring our calls and messages despite their promises.”

When asked for a comment, Gallants midfielder, Manaka said he doesn’t run the tournament but has assigned people who would take responsibility for the mess.
