Why Pirates’ Thabang Monare is not worried by Pirates’ poor run of form

Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare says he’s not worried by the team’s poor run of of late, insisting that they will bounce back in no time with the quality of players they have at their disposal.

Monare strongly believes it is a matter of the players understanding the new direction the club has decided to take and adapt.

The Soweto giants have been struggling for form, blowing hot and cold this season under Spaniard mentor Jose Riveiro.

Pirates started the season brightly, as they scooped the MTN8 trophy, beating AmaZulu in the final in Durban.

However, in the long run, Pirates lost form and focus as they have only managed to win once in the last seven matches, dropping to eighth on the DStv Premiership log standings at the halfway stage.

“We’re a team that believes, sometimes you focus on the results not looking at the bigger picture and you end up losing a team that might be dominant in the future based on the results,” Monare told the media.

“We have to understand that we’re a team that’s still learning and want to find a new identity, that’s going to take time and hard work.

“As long as the squad and players, we have are truly believing in the direction that the team is taking at the moment and the team is working towards that, it’s just a matter of time and everything will be fine.”

With already one trophy in the bag this season, Monare believes the Sea Robbers will win more trophies under coach Riveiro.

“It’s something that we emphasized on [winning trophies], it’s one good success at a time. I see it here, I sense it. It’s just a matter of time. I know it’s very difficult for people to accept and understand,” he added.

“Success should be permanent as soon as we get it running in our blood. We’re a squad that believes, wants to work and learn through hard times.

“We want to help each other as individuals to improve. To understand what it takes to win and how to come back after you have been a rough patch.
