Norman Mapeza dumps ex-Maritzburg United midfielder
In what has emerged as a shock decision, former Chippa United gaffer Norman Mapeza has dumped Blessing Moyo, formerly with DStv Premiership side Maritzburg United.
Moyo was released from the four-time Zimbabwean champions, FC Platinum, along with four other players.
The club opted against renewing the contracts of veteran defender William Stima and Evidence Tendayi, while Nigel Makumbe returned to his parent club, Ngezi Platinum.
Nigerian striker Onifade Abubakar Temitope has been sent on a season-long loan stint at the newly promoted side Simba Bhora.
FC PLATINUM STATEMENT
“A big thank you to William Stima, Blessing Sasha Moyo, Nigel Makumbe, Onifade Abubakar Temitope and Evidence Tendayi for being part of the Pure Platinum family,” the club confirmed via their Facebook page.
As you move on, the Ccub wishes you all the best in your future endeavours.”
However, it is the departure of Moyo that is likely to trigger mixed feelings among FC Platinum supporters.
Moyo was the club’s midfield hub last season when they defended their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title for the fourth time in a row.
On several occasions, coach Mapeza singled out Moyo for praise as one of the most consistent players in the team.
And without a shred of doubt, the 27-year-old leaves a void that could be hard to fill as the platinum miners prepare for the 2023 season that is slated to start early in March.
How Norman Mapeza will fill the void left by the utility player remains to be seen.
Moyo joined FC Platinum in January 2021 and deservedly became a darling in the small mining town of Zvishavane, where FC Platinum is based.
He was coming from a below-par spell in South Africa, where he also played for TS Sporting and Real Kings, respectively.
Meanwhile, Simba Bhora are believed to be prepared to lure Moyo in their frantic efforts to form a mean machine for their maiden season in Zimbabwe’s elite league.
So far, they have recruited seven seasoned players, including former University of Pretoria centre-back Patson Jaure.
