Vilakazi outlines Arrows’ main targets for remainder of the season

Golden Arrows co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has outlined the club’s main targets for the remainder of the season.

After losing away to Orlando Pirates on Saturday in a DStv Premiership clash, Golden Arrows moved further down the log standings, out of the top eight on 19 points after 16 games.

The mandate for Vilakazi and his Abafana Besthende troops is to finish the 2022/23 season in a top-eight position.

This is a target the Golden Arrows dressing room has set for themselves for this season according to their head coach, Vilakazi.

The last time the KwaZulu-Natal side was able to secure a spot in the top eight was in the 2020/21 season.

That season, Arrows finished in fourth place and missed out on a CAF Confederations ticket to Orlando Pirates by just three points.

Since then, is has been difficult for Golden Arrows to mirror the 2020/21 season performance.

But Vilakazi and his charges are optimistic, and they are set to use the remaining games in the league to secure a top eight spot.

“We have set out a mandate for ourselves. At the beginning of the season, we sat down with the players, not from the management, but it was a commitment that we did as players and also technical staff,” said Vilakazi.

“We have a cycle of five games which we expect to get 10 points. Our cycle has not been one of the best in terms of being smooth.

“And you find that we will win two, lose, draw and stuff like that, but we are still within the structure of achieving what we want to achieve.

“We just want to be realistic to ourselves; we want to achieve a top eight and sit in the top eight come end of the season.

“If we find ourselves achieving more than what we wanted, it will be a cherry on top. Maybe a better position for us,” added the Arrows coach.
