‘Themba Zwane is a source of inspiration’: AmaZulu star Thabo Qalinge
AmaZulu FC winger Thabo Qalinge has applauded Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane for his consistent performances, stating that the Bafana Bafana star is a source of inspiration for players over the age of 30.
‘Section 10’, as Qalinge is affectionately known, was recently recalled to AmaZulu senior team after training with the reserve side for six months.
Qalinge, who’s now 31 years old, was handed another chance by Romain Folz who believes he can still bring out the best in him.
Former Orlando Pirates man says seeing a 33-year-old Zwane constantly performing at his best, encourages him to stay on the course.
WHY IS THABO QALINGE APPLAUDING THEMBA ZWANE
“I applaud players like Themba Zwane for their consistency,” Qalinge told the media in Durban.
“It encourages us to see someone at our age still doing it the way he’s been doing it.”
The Soweto-born, Qalinge went on to reflect on being sidelined by the previous coach Brandon Truter.
He described it as one of the lowest points of his career, however, he believes he’s about to come back stronger.
‘IT’S A ROLLERCOASTER GAME’
“At the same time, you must consider the fact that it’s a rollercoaster game. It’s not just a game that, you will just stay there at the top every time,” he added.
“Even your ‘General’ Teko [Modise], they’ve had their times, then they’ve had their lows and they came back.
“So it’s not a game whereby you can just say you’re having it all at once. You can have it all at once but it won’t stay like that forever.
“That’s the unfortunate part cause there’s always other people behind you, pushing, and remember there’s competition.”
Qalinge has played two games since his return, including the previous match against Kaizer Chiefs, where he started.
He’ll be looking to collect his third appearance when his side takes on struggling Marumo Gallants on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
