Two things that must change at Kaizer Chiefs in Itu Khune’s eyes

Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has identified two things that must change at the Soweto giants if they are to improve and climb up in the log standings.

Chiefs are fourth on the DStv Premiership table after 16 games with seven victories, three draws and six defeats.

The Arthur Zwane-coached has been shaky and inconsistent at the back, making mistakes. They have conceded 20 goals so far this season.

Going forward, the Soweto giants are creating many goal-scoring opportunities. However, they’re struggling to find the back of the net. In 16 league matches, they have scored 18 goals.

CHIEFS MUST AVOID MAKING SILLY MISTAKES AT THE BACK

According to Khune, the team must avoid committing costly mistakes at the back that result in goals.

“Out of the 20 goals that we have conceded this season, 13 of these goals we made errors in our last third. If we didn’t do that, I think we would have been far in the log,” Khune told the media.

“Those are the kind of things we need to. avoid; silly errors in our own half.”

CHIEFS MUST TAKE THEIR CHANCES AND SCORE GOALS

Amakhosi have been finding it hard to score despite creating clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities in most of their matches this season.

In their last DStv Premiership match against AmaZulu, in Durban, they registered 18 shots, got two on target and failed to score.

“If you look at the stats, first half only we create more than nine chances but we fail to hit the target. That’s something that needs to change,” added Khune.

“We play good football, we take the game to our opponents but we get disappointed in front of goal.”

KHUNE NOT FAZED BY CHIEFS BEING LABELLED UNDERDOGS

The skipper went on to state that being labelled “underdogs” ahead of the Saturday showdown against Mamelodi Sundowns doesn’t disturb their preparations.

“I don’t think given the price tag of underdogs will affect our preparations. We have to go out there and get the result that we want, which is a win at home. It’s important that we forget about the past and focus on the future,” he declared

Chiefs renew rivalry against Sundowns, a team they lost 4-0 against in the first round of the league.

Heading into the match, Amakhosi will be aiming to correct their mistakes and end a two-match losing streak.

Kickoff at FNB Stadium in Soweto is at 8pm.
