AmaZulu’s Romain Folz on advantage he has over Gallants ahead of league clash

AmaZulu FC head coach Romain Folz has voiced his feelings ahead of coming up against his former employers, Marumo Gallants, in the DStv Premiership on Saturday [21 January 2023].

It’s Bahlabane Ba Ntwa who brought Folz to South Africa as their head coach at the start of the season prior to partying company with the club just after three months in charge.

The 32-year-old reportedly didn’t see eye to eye with the management of the club and elected to leave.

Thereafter, the French-Moroccan man joined the KZN outfit in October and has already faced Gallants in the first round, where the contest ended in a goalless stalemate.

Now, ‘Fohloza’ as he is widely known, believes he will have a slight advantage over the Limpopo side, having been in their dugout before.

FOLZ ON FACING FORMER CLUB GALLANTS

“I know more about the individuals, maybe mentally, how the players are, but it’s 50/50 because the new coach came,” Romain Folz told the journalists during the club’s media open day on Wednesday.

“He brings his own methods and everything, so it gives me a little bit [of advantage],  but not that much.”

Folz also revealed that he had received a major boost ahead of Gallants’ clash following the return of some key players who were injured.

This includes the likes of Keagan Buchanan and captain Makhehlene Makhaula who picked up a knock in their previous match.

“At the moment, everyone is fine. We need to maintain our fitness levels. Some of the guys feel a little bit heavier in the legs,” he added.

“But everyone should be fine for the game.

“Makhaula is getting back surely. He might have some minutes at the weekend.

“It depends on what I wanna do in terms of defensive midfield, but you might see him.”

The match will be held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 20:00.
