Nyirenda endorses former Chiefs striker Kambole’s return to Zambia
The man who gave former Kaizer Chiefs striker Lazarous Kambole his Chipolopolo Zambia big break, Wedson Nyirenda, has saluted Zesco United for taking in the forgotten star striker.
Zesco’s newly appointed technical team has brought in Kambole as a cog in the nine-time Zambian champions revival project, albeit on a short-term basis.
Kambole rejoins his former club on a half-season deal from Tanzanian champions Young Africans.
Young Africans pick up Kambole for free in June 2022 following an unsuccessful three-year stay at South African PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs.
Chiefs signed Kambole from Zesco in June 2019, but the striker failed to settle.
NYIRENDA EXPLAINS WHY SIGNING KAMBOLE IS A WISE DECISION
Nyirenda told FARPost that Zesco coach George Lwandamina and the clubs’ technical director Honour Janza had made a wise move to bring Kambole back home.
“I am so glad to see my young man back at Zega (Zesco United). And thanks to coach Lwandamina and TD Janza for according the young man the chance to make his comeback,” Nyirenda said.
“As for Lazarous, I must say you have done the wise thing to come back to base and continue his quest for greater heights.
“In order to take a giant step, you take a few steps back. I still know Lazarus will be a shining star when he starts playing happily.”
Nyirenda took Kambole straight into his Chipolopolo team for the 2018 CHAN tournament in Morocco.
The striker made a storming Chipolopolo debut in Morocco, scoring two goals in four games at the tournament. Zambia made a quarterfinal exit.
Meanwhile, Kambole, who arrived back in Zambia on Wednesday, is set to be unveiled this Friday, January 20, at Zesco’s home base in Ndola.
Kambole’s unveiling will be a doubleheader event that will see Zesco also roll out its new kit for long-term sponsors, Umbro.
He returns to the club; his 16 goals in 2019 helped inspire Zesco to their eighth league.
But Zesco is currently struggling this season at number 10 on the log with 25 points and is twelve points behind leaders Power Dynamos with fifteen matches left to play.
