Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena won’t be deceived by Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says he won’t be fooled when it comes to Kaizer Chiefs recent results and takes nothing for granted ahead of their battle with the Soweto giants.

Mokwena reckons that Kaizer Chiefs’ recent poor run is not the true reflection of Amakhosi’s performance.

This comes after the Soweto giants lost their last two DStv Premiership matches at the hands of Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu, respectively.

Mokwena was speaking ahead of the eagerly-awaited mouthwatering showdown against Chiefs on Saturday, 21 January at the FNB Stadium. The kick-off is at 20:00.

The 34-year-old coach believes that the Glamour Boys have a strong squad capable of standing toe-to-toe with his side under the guidance of Arthur Zwane.

RULANI MOKWENA’S EXPECTATIONS…

“Chiefs has great players, and their performances may be much better than their results suggest,” Mokwena told Sundowns’ media department.

“If you only look at the score lines you get a wrong impression about them. They are very organised and very clear in their patterns of play.

“The team has well-drilled schemes and have a good coach [Arthur Zwane] surrounded by a great technical team.”

Meanwhile, Bafana Ba Style are flourishing at the summit of the log standings with 43 points, while Chiefs are placed fourth on the table with 24 points.

HOW RULANI MOKWENA PLANS TO APPROACH THE GAME

In addition, Mokwena insists they will approach the showpiece the best way they know how to walk away victorious.

“We have to go in there and play the game the way it has to be played,” he said.

“And we will play it with a mindset of always trying to do better than the opponent, have better chances, and have an exceptional profile on the pitch.

“We know that with this game it will be two teams going for the result that’s in their favour.

“When we play, we plan to put on our very best performance.”
