‘There is no stopping me to be Zimbabwe’s own Jomo Sono’

A newly promoted Zimbabwe first-division team, CM15 Academy, have expressed interest in having Jomo Sono’s services as they aim to set up a club similar to his Jomo Cosmos.

Owned by Clement Mabhureza, the club is one of the new establishments that has taken the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League by storm ahead of the 2023 season.

Mabhureza himself has revealed admiration for Bafana Bafana legend Sono’s modus operandi and that he will pull all stops to lure the South African legend.

“With extraordinary perseverance, all things are possible. I’m inspired a lot by Jomo Sono from losing his father at a tender age to rise to a legendary status in South Africa.

“He even had an impact on many lives in and out of South Africa.

“From an early age, growing up in a mining environment before relocating to Beitbridge where my mother comes from, I always wanted to inspire somebody through football.

Mabhureza added: “I couldn’t go as far as I wanted to as a player but now there is no stopping me to be Zimbabwe’s own Jomo Sono.

WHY CLEMENT MABHUREZ AIMS TO BE ZIM’S OWN JOMO SONO

“I agree that the funds are hard to come by because it’s expensive running football club in Zimbabwe but I’m determined to see this project bear fruit.

“Jomo Sono inspired me a lot looking at the number of big-name players that came through his hands to play in the South African Premier League and then later Europe.”

CM15 is based in Beitbridge. The academy owner has been working hand in gloove with coach Hilary Mukuruva, who is the father to former Cape Town City goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva.

“One thing that is affecting our youths at the moment is lack of focus and guidance.

“There are a lot of talented youths who are getting distracted by drugs and other vices but through football we can give them focus and belief.

“Also there are players that might not make it to the highest level as players but the life skills that we teach them at the CM15 Academy will help them become better people in life.

“So getting into the Ruvimbo Central Region Soccer League, our aim is to bring in another dimension to football which is not just fighting for the title and other honours.

“As CM15 Academy we want to give a platform for the young players to blossom and make their names elsewhere. Our team is made up of young players with the majority of them being below the age of 20.”
