Why Jose Riveiro is unhappy despite Orlando Pirates’ convincing win
Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says there is one element he was unhappy about despite claiming a convincing 4-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC on Sunday afternoon at Orlando Stadium in the DStv Premiership.
Riveiro’s troops won back-to-back games after beating Golden Arrows 3-1 last Saturday at the same venue.
Despite the comprehensive win against Stellies, Riveiro was not pleased with how his charges conceded the goal.
WHAT MAKES JOSÉ RIVEIRO UNHAPPY
“We are competitive, so we are not happy with the fact that we conceded one goal in a situation that might be easy to defend,” Riveiro told the media.
“It was just unfortunate that we defended the set piece with one man less.
“[Craig] Martin was out of the field because he was feeling dizzy after he was hit with the ball.
“And we need to solve it [conceding] because if the scoreline was different at that moment, maybe 1-0 or 2-0, we would probably see that goal in a different way.
“It’s something that we could easily avoid with better communication.
“And we need to take care of those details because you are not always going to go into the last minute of the game leading 4-0 and it’s a reality.
“So we need to put attention in those details,” he added.
Although Pirates have clinched silverware this season, the MTN8, they have had an inconsistent start in the league.
Pirates have won seven games, drawing four while losing in six outings after 17 matches played. They are currently positioned fourth on the Premiership table with 25 points.
CHANGE OF GOAL SCORING FORTUNES
The Soweto giants have seemingly found their goal scoring formula after scoring seven goals in their last two encounters.
Prior to winning their last two games, the Sea Robbers suffered two loses in a row against Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City.
Up next for Pirates is a trip to Marumo Gallants at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday, 28th of January.
That match is scheduled to kick off at 20:00.
