Sundowns goalkeeper Jody February joins AmaZulu on loan

Highly-rated goalkeeper Jody February has joined AmaZulu FC on loan from DStv Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

February returned to Sundowns at the beginning of the 2022/23 season from a season-long loan at Swallows FC.

But with competition stiff in the goalkeeping department at the Tshwane giants, AmaZulu announced the arrival of February by posting a video on social media, showing the goalie being welcomed at Usuthu on Wednesday.

The move is meant for February to get the much-needed game time in the Premiership.

During his loan stint at Swallows last campaign, February featured in 21 games for the Soweto side and kept six clean sheets.

His time with Swallows was not an easy one as he and his fellow teammates’ battled relegation all season long.

The 26-year-old February believes that his loan spell at the Durban side is an opportunity for him to grow his game and become a better player.

FEBRUARY’S FIRST WORDS AT AMAZULU

“It is a surprise to be honest, because I didn’t know that AmaZulu were interest,” February told AmaZulu’s media department.

“And when they came last week, I was actually happy, a new opportunity. Not a fresh start but it is a chance for me to compete.

The Cape Town born goalie expressed his excitement to be at a new club and build new friendships along the way.

“The players are welcoming, like I said, I know most of the players. As time goes on, I will get to know a lot more, and create more friendships,” added the goalkeeper.

“Brotherhoods on and off the field, we are one, and at the end of the day, it is just to help the club get better, do better and reach our goals we set ourselves for the season.

“And hopefully we will all do better together.”

AMAZULU’S CURRENT GOALKEEPER SITUATION

AmaZulu currently has Veli Mothwa as their number-one goalkeeper at the moment.

The 31-year-old has made 17 appearances for Usuthu, and has six clean sheets under his belt.

The arrival of the new signing will surely keep Mothwa on his toes for the number position in the team.
