Former Orlando Pirates star hurting over unpaid salary at Swallows

Former Orlando Pirates star Thandani Ntshumayelo is hurting over unpaid salaries at DStv Premiership side Swallows.

Thandani Ntshumayelo, who pleaded guilty was banned for four years from playing professional football after he tested positive for cocaine while playing for Orlando Pirates back in 2016.

‘Bibo’ as he’s famously known, was, however, given a lifeline to return to football when his ban was reduced to two years after an appeal.

After two years without kicking the ball at a professional level, Thandani Ntshumayelo was given an opportunity by Soweto side, Swallows, to resurrect his career.

Although the 32-year-old was happy to be given a chance play football again, he’s not pleased with how Swallows failed to pay his salary.

“I just want to be honest with the incident of Swallows, but I just didn’t want to talk about it because I respect the chairman [David Mogashoa],” Ntshumayelo said SNAWA with Andile Ncube.

“The relationship with Swallows didn’t end the way I expected in terms of finances.

“How they treated us was not pleasant, I called the chairman, and I even spoke to him today [Wednesday, 25th of January]. I spoke to him as a man because I have a family.

“And I think everyone knows what the problem was because we were not getting paid.

“For someone like me, I was still trying to pick up and get on my feet again but nothing happened.

“It’s not only me who was not getting paid, everyone was not getting paid, but at least they should have called us to explain the situation,” he added.

The former Bafana Bafana international joined the Dobsonville-based outfit in 2021 on a one-year deal but he has since left the club after his contract was not renewed.

Ntshumayelo joins the long list of players who came out to publicly to express their displeasure about Swallows’ wages shenanigans.
