Oupa Manyisa joins Motsepe Foundation Championship side La Masia

Oupa Manyisa has joined Motsepe Foundation Championship newbies MM Platinum FC, famously known as La Masia.

Earlier this week, this publication reported on the possibility of the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder reuniting with his former mentor, Ashwin Sutton, at La Masia FC.

The FARPost report came after Manyisa was spotted training with La Masia on Monday following his departure at Platinum City Rovers.

Sutton and Manyisa worked together at City Rovers from the beginning of the 2021/22 season, in what was the club’s maiden term in the second-tier league.

Rovers finished that campaign in 10th position on 38 points with 10 wins, eight draws, and 12 losses.

However, in the early stages of the current season, Sutton was relieved of his duties at the North West side, only to resurface at La Masia.

DETAILS OF OUPA MANYISA’S CONTRACT WITH LA MASIA

Manyisa signed a six-month contract on Tuesday, 25 January, with a one-year option to renew at the end of the season.

La Masia, the new kids on the block, have amassed 14 points after 15 games in the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the halfway stage.

They are in the relegation zone in 15th place; hence the club’s management opted for changes in playing personnel and technical team.

La Masia will hope Manyisa’s experience will come in handy as they desperately need points to avoid the axe.

Manyisa, famously known as “Ace”, first made his name at Pirates after he joined in the 2007/08 season.

The 34-year-old was part of the Pirates squad that won a double treble between the 2010/11 and 2011/12 season.

He also reached the CAF Champions League final in 2013. However, Pirates fell short against Al Ahly, losing 3-1 on aggregate.

Manyisa then joined Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2017/18 season, although injuries stalled his stint at Sundowns.

Manyisa still won two league titles with Bafana ba Style. He spent three seasons at the Tshwane giants and got released at the end of the 2019/20 season after he did not feature much for the club.
