SuperSport United confirm the signing of Mamour Niang
“I am very excited to join SuperSport United. Mame Niang told me that coach Gavin Hunt is like a father to all of his players."
SuperSport United have bolstered their attacking options as they confirmed the signing of striker Mamour Niang.
The Senegalese international joins DStv Premiership side Matsatsantsa a Pitori on a one-and-a-half year deal with an option to renew.
Niang first arrived in South Africa for trials in December 2022 and impressed the SuperSport technical team.
And with the departure of Thamsanqa Gabuza imminent, the lanky forward is seen as a perfect replacement for the veteran forward.
The 24-year-old Niang played for Senegalese outfit Teungueth FC and helped them to win the league in the 2020/21 season.
WHY GAVIN HUNT IS ELATED TO HAVE MAMOUR NIANG
“We wanted to bring in a younger striker to complement the experience we have upfront,” said SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt.
“Niang is a typical number nine and he will be able to take off some of the workload in our strike force.
“His aerial power is going to cause teams problems and I’m looking forward to pushing him to higher levels,” added Hunt.
Meanwhile, Niang said it was easy for him to make a decision to join SuperSport after what his brother Mame Niang told him about Gavin Hunt,” he revealed.
“I am very excited to join SuperSport United. Mame Niang told me that coach Gavin Hunt is like a father to all of his players.
“He’s pushed me to work hard during all of our training sessions. I’m looking forward to meeting all the Matsatsantsa supporters.”
NIANG TO REPLACE THAMSANQA GABUZA
Veteran striker Thamsanqa Gabuza is expected to leave the club before the transfer window period closes next week.
The 35-year-old has been linked with a move to struggling Stellenbosch although there had also been talks about a move to Royal AM.
SuperSport have also reportedly also parted ways with Namibian striker Benson Shilongo. The 30-year-old has struggled to make the team since his move back in September 2022.
