Pitso Mosimane’s side goes three points clear in Saudi Arabia
Coach Pitso Mosimane’s Al-Ahli Saudi beat Qaisumah 2-0 to go three points clear at the Saudi Arabian First Division’s summit on Saturday.
Hicham Faik and Ryad Boudebouz scored in either half for the Pitso Mosimane’s outfit at Al-Batin Club Stadium.
Al-Ahli Saudi had the Saudi Arabian First Division game in control right from the first whistle. The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor appeared to savour every moment from the touchline.
HOW AL-AHLI SAUDI CONTROLLED THE GAME
Little wonder, defender Ryad Boudebouz bombed forward to open the scoring with a cool finish in the 17th minute.
Right-winger Hicham Faik scored Al-Ahli’s second goal on the hour-match to cushion the lead.
Mosimane featured well-known players such as Modou Barrow, formerly of Swansea.
The Gambian international Barrow came in as a second-half substitute for Abdullah Al-Mogren in the 77th minute.
Al-Ahli have 37 points from 18 games ahead of second-placed Al-Hazem, who have also played 18 matches.
Al-Hazem are at par on points with Al Faisaly, who are now in fifth place.
Al Faisaly led the log table for the better part of the race, only to surrender the position to Pitso Mosimane’s charge last week.
Al-Ahli Saudi went top of the table on Tuesday when they thrashed Al-Jabalain 3-0.
Al-Ahli were then level on 34 points with the deposed leaders, Al-Faisaly.
WHY PITSO MOSIMANE IS ON TRACK TO DELIVER THE GOODS
The South African is on track to deliver on his mandate of earning Al-Ahli an instant return to the Saudi Arabian Professional League.
Mosimane has won seven league games and drawn five matches with the Jeddah-based outfit.
He remains undefeated across all competitions. Mosimane found the team in the middle of the log table.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns gaffer took over Al-Ahli mid-last year months.
He had then just parted ways with Al Ahly of Egypt.
Mosimane went on a sabbatical for a few months after leaving the Reds of Cairo.
The 57-year-old had delivered the goods in Egypt, bagging two CAF Champions League titles in three attempts.
