Ex-Pirates striker Jean-Marc Makusu secures Saudi Arabia move

Former Orlando Pirates striker Jean-Marc Makusu has signed for Saudi Arabian First Division team, Hajer Club.

Jean-Marc Makusu joins the Saudi side on a short-term deal. The second-tier Saudi Arabia club has confirmed that it has recruited the former Orlando Pirates man.

The Congolese joins several other Africans in the Saudi Arabia second tier, such as Al-Ahli Saudi coach Pitso Mosimane.

JEAN-MARC MAKUSU’S SPELL TO FORGET WITH PIRATES

He will be hoping to inject new life into his fading career. The Congolese star had a spell to forget at Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership three seasons ago.

“Freshly returned from CHAN, Jean-Marc Makusu arrives @HajerClub,” Hajer Club’s statement reads.

“Free of any contract, the Congolese centre-forward has signed a six-month contract with the team.”

Pirates announced the signing of Jean-Marc Makusu from AS Vita in Congo in 2020 on a season-long loan deal.

The deal had an option for a permanent transfer, but it was not to be. Even more considering that his statistics in front of goal were below average.

The spiky-haired attacker managed to locate the target just once in eight games across all competitions.

The 30-year-old has, since his flirtation with the Buccaneers, changed clubs like socks in Congo.

JOURNEYMAN IN CONGO AFTER LEAVING PIRATES

In the last two seasons, he has played for DC Motema Pemba and Lupopo in Congo.

Jean-Marc Makusu resigned from Lupopo with two years remaining on his contract weeks ago.

The Leopards attacker announced that he had turned his back on Lupopo on the eve of the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria.

The Congolese player has just returned from Algeria, where they participated in a CHAN tournament.

He was part of the DRC team that played against Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal in Group B.

Makusu did not deliver the goods with the Buccaneers after signing for them two seasons ago. He had joined the Buccaneers on a year-long loan from AS Vita Club.

The Congolese forward was last on the books of the Congolese side Et Eloi Lupopo. Hajer Club have beefed up the squad with Makusu to avoid relegation.

The club lies four places behind the relegation zone. Al Hajer have 20 points from 18 games. Mosimane’s Al-Ahli Saudi lead the log table with 37 points from 18 matches.
