Explained: Why Thokozani Sekotlong has been absent from AmaTuks squad

University of Pretoria Pretoria [AmaTuks] head coach Tlisane Motaung has provided an update on the absence of new signing Thokozani Sekotlong.

Sekotlong joined AmaTuks year December on a free transfer after parting company with Chippa United at the start of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker is yet to feature in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, and his coach, Motaung, has shed light on his situation.

WHAT HAS KEPT THOKOZANI SEKOTLONG SIDELINED?

“Thokozani Sekotlong is still a bit far from returning to the team,” Motaung told FARPost.

“He sustained an injury at training, which has kept him out of the squad up to this far; hence he’s yet to play.

“We know his qualities, and there’s no doubt that once he’s back to the team, he will definitely assist us,” he added.

Sekotlong was in the books of Sundowns from the 2017/18 Premiership campaign and spent two seasons at Chloorkop before leaving for free at the end of the 2018/19 season.

The 31-year forward was signed by Tuks alongside his former teammate at Sundowns, Rodney Ramagalela.

Despite being a free agent for over nine months, Ramagela has already featured for the Pretoria-based side.

Rama G, as he’s famously known, has made three appearances in the NFD and has one goal to his name.

Meanwhile, AmaTuks have had an inconsistent start to the 2022/23 second-tier season, and they currently lie eighth in the league table.

AmaTuks have won five games, drew seven, and lost four times after 16 games.

They accumulated 22 points and remain 11 points behind log leaders Polokwane City who are on 33 points.
