Marumo Gallants place coach Dan Malesela on ‘compulsory leave’

Struggling DStv Premiership side Marumo Gallants have placed head coach Dan Malesela on ‘compulsory leave’.

The ‘leave’ could as well spell the end of Malesela’s second tenure at the club. He only rejoined the club in September from Royal AM.

The decision comes after the recent poor results in which the club has not won in their last eight matches.

They have lost six and drew two of those matches, including the 2-0 loss to Orlando Pirates over the weekend. Marumo languishes at the bottom of the log with 10 matches to play.

GALLANTS PROBLEMS BIGGER THAN DAN MALESELA?

But the problems could be more than just a coach at the now North West-based club. They let go of some of the key players, such as Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and Miguel Timm, at the beginning of the season.

Striker Sede Dion also recently left to join AmaZulu. Dion was replaced by Judas Moseamedi, while the club has struggled to find suitable replacements for Timm and Ndlondlo, who have joined Orlando Pirates.

They also played more games without their regular defenders, such as Lehlohonolo Nonyane, Mpho Mvelase and Ayanda Nkili, due to injuries.

The club also seem to be unsettled with their training based in Polokwane and having to travel away to Rustenburg for their home matches. They are yet to win a single league match since the move to the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.

DYLAN KERR TASKED TO SAVE MARUMO GALLANTS?

Meanwhile, their former coach Dylan Kerr has been strongly linked with a return to the club. Kerr has been jobless since parting ways with Swallows. Indications are that he could start as early as Tuesday to prepare for the match against Sekhukhune.

Another person linked to the job is Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala. Mosala was recently at Eswatini giants Mbabane Highlanders but left in September. He is now part of the Marumo DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side to work alongside Matsemela Thoka.
