AmaZulu and Pirates reach agreement over Makhehleni Makhaula
AmaZulu Football Club and Orlando Pirates have reached an agreement over the transfer of Usuthu captain Makhehleni Makhaula.
The 33-year-old recently penned a pre-contract with the Buccaneers after he decided against committing his future to Usuthu.
Now, Makhaula will no longer wait for the end of the current season to move to Parktown as he’s been released.
Ezimnyama Ngenkani began luring the former Highlands Park man to the Mayfair in the first round, knowing that his contract with the KZN outfit was set to come to an end in June.
This publication reported that the player was initially interested in extending his stay with the Durban-based club. However, the club and Makhaula’s camp couldn’t find each other.
AMAZULU STATEMENT ON MAKHEHLENI MAKHAULA
“AmaZulu Football Club have reached an agreement with Orlando Pirates for the release of club captain and midfielder, Makhehleni Makhaula which takes effect in the current transfer window,” the club said via a statement.
The chairman of Usuthu Sandile Zungu offered Makhaula his blessings and complimented him for his professionalism while he was at the club.
“Makhaula leaves with our full blessings. He has served the club very well as captain and was the recipient of the President’s and the player’s player of the year awards two seasons ago with merit,” said Zungu.
MAKHAULA TO BOLSTER PIRATES MIDFIELD
Over the past few seasons, the Sea Robbers have been chopping and changing their midfield. In fact, they haven’t had a consistent defensive midfielder.
The arrival of Miguel Timm in the beginning of the season may have somewhat brought some stability. However, the form of the ex-Marumo Gallants man has also been fluctuating.
Apart from Timm, Makhaula will fight for the jersey with the likes of Ben Motshwari, Goodman Mosele, and Thabo Monare.
Makhaula is the second signing the Soweto giants have made in this transfer window after the striker Souaibou Marou.
