Selaotse Mosala explains secret behind Gallants’ win over Sekhukhune

Marumo Gallants interim assistant coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala has explained the secret behind their Saturday’s DStv Premiership 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United.

Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala, told FARPost that improved fitness levels and a more attacking approach helped Marumo Gallants to unlock Sekhukhune United at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

HOW MARUMO GALLANTS GOT IT RIGHT IN FIELDING

“We were good; not too strong but good,” Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala, the Mbabane Highlanders FC handler, said.

“We can be better. We played well. We fielded one or two players that were not playing, like Cheik Ahmadou, the Ivorian. Lucky Mohomi also finished the game. The back-four was the same.”

The former TS Sporting head coach also said they deployed a more attacking approach to the game.

“We played well. We were attacking. We were going for them yesterday. We should have scored five, six or seven goals,” Sly Mosala added.

The Marumo Gallants caretaker assistant trainer also analysed the game.

“They had small chances in the game. We were too strong. We showed a little bit of fitness improvement and we played in the opponents’ half most of the times,” Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala said.

“The priority was to play well and keep a clean sheet…if you don’t concede, [either] you have a point or you can score later.”

WHAT FORMATION GALLANTS USED AGAINST SEKHUKHUNE UNITED?

The former Amatuks trainer also gave an idea about Gallants’ formation in the game against Sekhukhune.

“We played them differently. We played 4-4-2 but we were changing. When we had the ball, we were changing the shape,” he said.

“Remember, you cannot restrict [Celimpilo] Ngema. He is one of those box-to-box number 8. He was helping us defensively and supporting us going forward.

It was the first game that Gallants played after making changes to the coaching panel last week.

Gallants announced that they had sent coach Dan Malesela on a special leave.

The club brought Dylan Kerr as a consult with Raymond Mdaka named caretaker coach in the panel which also has Mosala.

Mosala was recently coaching Eswatini giants Mbabane Highlanders but left last September.

He has been part of the Marumo DStv Diski Challenge side working alongside Matsemela Thoka.

The exit of Malesela has seen Gallants management making the coaching changes which seem to be working.

This was evidenced by the win over Sekhukhune at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Lucky Mohomi and Letsie Koapeng’s 31st and 62nd minute strikes sealed the win for Gallants.

Gallants anchor the log table with 18 points from 21 games.

Malesela left after managing just two wins in 10 league games.
