Arthur Zwane explains why Kaizer Chiefs are failing to be consistent

"It's been the story of our season."

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has explained why his men are failing to grind results consistently in the league

Zwane is the first to admit that luck has not been on their side in the current DStv Premiership campaign.

The former midfielder blames his team’s lack of consistency in terms of carving out good results to incessant injuries.

To rub more salt in his wounds, Khama Billiat and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo have already been ruled out of the season.

On the other hand, Cole Alexander and Eric Mathoho are among other players who are nursing different ailments.

This has left Chiefs frail, with the better part of their recent signings failing to live up to their billing.

“I think we have been unfortunate when it comes to injuries and consistency this season,” said Zwane at the PSL headquarters.

“Whenever we go to a third game or the second game, we lose a key player due to injury. It can also be due to unforeseen circumstances, so we have been very unfortunate.

“From there, we have to reshuffle the team again. If its not suspension like I alluded. It’s a worrying factor for us.”

The coach said on several occasions he has been left at pains when it comes to team selection owing to injuries.

Zwane added: ” Sometimes we don’t even know what we are doing. That’s in terms of our starting eleven or who we want to play because things keep on changing.

“We lost two key players in one game. We lost Keagan [Dolly], we lost Caleb [Bimenyimana] in another game.

“So if you can look from the beginning of the season, we won in Richards Bay, with man one down. In Cape Town, we lost Yusuf [Maart]. It’s been the story of our season.

“To be honest, we can’t obviously focus on that, but we look into the positives and what has worked for us. We will keep on doing that. We also go for corrections because we know that we will eventually get it right.”

The Glamour boys are slated to take on Maritzburg United in a Nedbank Cup clash on Friday, 10 February.

They are smarting from a disappointing weekend, where they were held to a goalless draw by ten-man TS Galaxy in Mbombela.

However, Zwane will hope to keep Amakhosi on the positive trajectory by accounting for the scalp of Fadlu Davids’ team.
