Joseph Mhlongo and Lucky Baloyi on the verge of joining new club

Former Swallows winger Joseph Mhlongo and ex-Maritzburg United midfielder Lucky Baloyi are on the verge of joining a new club in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Mhlongo has been without a club since parting ways with Swallows at the end of last season and is now set to join Polokwane City.

The 32-year-old featured 26 times in all competitions for the Dube Birds during his two seasons at the club, scoring for goals and providing two assists.

At some point, Mhlongo was placed on suspension by Swallows following a fall-out with the management over financial obligations.

Mhlongo was also reportedly training with DStv Premiership side Royal AM but nothing materialised.

The former Black Leopards star was also in attendance when Rise and Shine played to a 0-0 draw with fellow promotion chases Cape Town Spurs at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium at the weekend.

Another player who has reportedly sealed a deal with Polokwane City is midfielder Lucky Baloyi.

Baloyi was initially on the verge of a move to Marumo Gallants.

But it seems he and Mhlongo have been roped in at Polokwane. The 31-year-old was at Maritzburg United recently and had stints at Bloem Celtic, Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs.

He left the Team of Choice by mutual consent after being deemed surplus to requirements by the new technical team led by Fadlu Davids.

Baloy was also in attendance as his new teammates shared the spoils with Cape Town Spurs.

The draw saw City dropping to second place whole Casric Stars who won against Baroka. The pair have already started with their rest of the players.

TOUGH BATTLE FOR PROMOTION AHEAD

Polokwane City are currently one of the favourites for promotion with 13 matches remaining.

There won’t be any easy games for Polokwane in the league. They will take on Black Leopards in a Limpopo next, host All Stars and then drive to a difficult Hungry Lions side. They will then host Magesi in a Limpopo derby.
