Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Bongani Ndulula has shed light on the decision to officially add the name Drogba on his ID book.
Ndulula, who donned the jerseys of two biggest clubs in SA, Chiefs and Orlando Pirates revealed that he named himself after Didier Drogba because of the love he has for the ex-Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker.
Drogba scored goals for fun in his playing days and won major trophies including the the UEFA Champions League and Premier League title with Chelsea.
On top of that, the two-time African Footballer of the Year netted over 300 goals in his club football career and he is Ivory Coast’s all-time scorer with 65 goals.
With such accolades and a reputation of being a great striker, it is no surprise that Drogba is Ndudula’s idol.
However, Ndulula is not as deadly with only 20 goals in over 95 matches in all competitions in his career so far.
In an interview on Metro FM’s SNAWA, Ndulula told the host Andile Ncube that he looked up to Drogba so much that he ran to home affairs to add the legendary name his ID.

“I love Drogba, so much that when I went to get my ID, I added Drogba to my names,” said Ndulula.
The 33-year-old striker further revealed that he is still on the sidelines and the club search hasn’t been easy.
Ndulula has been a free agent since parting ways with Chippa United at the end of 2016/17 DStv Premiership season.
“I haven’t retired from football yet, I’m just waiting to get an opportunity from any team that would like me to try out for them,” he added.
“Sometimes I ask myself how did my career get here. I ask myself how do I not have a team to play for.
The former Bafana Bafana international also had stints at Bloemfontein Celtic and recently Chippa before his career hit a snag.
