COSAFA top scorer takes first step towards Sundowns Ladies’ deal

The 2022 COSAFA under-17 girls’ championship top scorer, Rose Kadzere, has taken her first step towards signing for Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

The COSAFA Championship Golden Boot Awardee has started undergoing training placements with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies spotted Rose Kadzere during the last under-17 girls Cosaga championship, which took place at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.

South Africa’s SA U17 Girls: Bantwana took part in the championship.

WHY MALAWIAN STRIKER HAS NOT SIGNED YET FOR SUNDOWNS LADIES

Rose Kadzere’s Ascent Academy of Lilongwe has confirmed that the striker is undergoing the training with a view to sign for the Tshwane side.

“Kadzere currently on training placement with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies,” Ascent Academy said in a brief statement.

“…enjoying being challenged in a full-time professional environment of the African Champions League finalists.”

Ascent Academy coach Thom Mkolongo told FARPost that it was just a matter of time before the rising star signs for Sundowns.

“Rose is with Sundowns not for trials but training placements. Sundowns will be inviting him periodically for the assessments until she is ready sign for them,” Mkolongo told FARPost.

“She cannot join them now as Sundowns are waiting for her to reach the age of 18 before she can sign a professional contract.”

Mkolongo described Rose Kadzere as one of the hottest prospects in Malawi and Southern Africa’s women’s football.

Kadzere led Malawi to a bronze medal finish at the 2022 Cosafa championship held in Lilongwe last December.

The tournament was held as part of Zone V Youth Games which Malawi hosted.

HOW ROSE KADZERE TOOK COSAFA CHAMPIONSHIP BY STORM

She won the Golden Boot Award after scoring eight goals. Kadzere was simply unstoppable at the tournament.

Malawi secured the bronze medal by beating Botswana 9-0 in a one-sided match.

The teenager Kadzere is being talked of in the same breath as the apparent heir to Malawi’s star Tabitha Chawinga.

The Malawian skipper Tabitha Chawinga is on loan at Inter Milan from Chinese Women’s Super League outfit Wuhan.

Tabitha’s younger sister Temwa plays for Wuhan.
