Ex-Golden Arrows midfielder finally finds new home in Zim
Former Golden Arrows midfielder Danny Phiri has been handed an opportunity to restart his career after signing for Zimbabwe’s Bulawayo Chiefs.
Phiri was unveiled by the club as they beef up their squad ahead of the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign.
The new season is slated to start in March. And Phiri is among some of players surfacing in the league having been unattached.
The 2015 Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year was offloaded by the DStv Premiership side Golden Arrows in July 2021.
With confidence Phiri swiftly moved to join Diamond Trust Bank [DTB] in Tanzania’s a second-tier division.
He left Tanzania at the end of 2021 under a cloud of uncertainity. The central midfielder went on to spend the whole of 2022 clubless.
WHAT AFFECTED DANNY PHIRI AT GOLDEN ARROWS
At Golden Arrows Phiri struggled with a nagging knee injury. He featured in 97 matches in all competitions where he scored three goals.
Sadly a nagging knee injury kept him on the sidelines at the peak of his stay with Abafana Bes’thende.
“The injury worries are over. I am fit now and ready to play. This is a chance to bounce back and prove myself again,” Phiri said.
Phiri joined Golden Arrows in July 2016 from Chicken Inn who had won the 2015 Zimbabwean title.
At Chicken Inn he played alongside Teenage Hadebe, Mitchel Katsvairo and Edmore Chirambadare who came to South Africa in 2016.
However Phiri joins a club that was recently in turmoil over unpaid salaries, developments that triggered and a massive player exodus.
Ex-Chippa United twins, Elvis and Kelvin Moyo are some of the players that severed ties with the Bulawayo based outfit.
Former with Bidvest Wits and Sekhukune United defender MacClive Phirialso left the club.
