Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala said they want to strike a balance between the cup and league assignments.

The former Eswatini’s Mbabane Highlanders coach said surviving DStv Premiership relegation remains their number one priority.

‘WE HAVE TO SAVE OUR DSTV PREMIERSHIP STATUS

“We have to save the [DStv Premiership] status. We have seen before people performing well in the Nedbank Cup and lose in the league. We don’t want that,” he said.

“The league is our priority. We have to save the status so that we save jobs. You know what will happen when we get relegated? There will be retrenchments, so we don’t want that.”

The ex-Sekhukhune United assistant coach said they want the cup engagements to complement their fight against relegation.

He said it was for this reason that they fielded fringe players in the Nedbank Cup game on Tuesday.

“We will be having other players that will be staying at home [during the CAF Champions League assignments] that we still need to look after,” he said.

“We want that when match come on 4th March against TS Galaxy, we are ready. When we play, we cannot afford a hiccup. We don’t want to use these other competitions as a hiccup, but as a preparation for the TS Galaxy game.”

Gallants saw off Magesi 3-1 in the Nedbank Cup round-of-32 game.

Gallants’ next assignment will be at home against Al Akhdar SC of Libya in the Confederation Cup Group A game on February 12 2023.

The Limpopo-based Gallants anchor the log table with 18 points from 21 games.

Gallants placed coach Dan Malesela on a special leave and hired Dylan Kerr as a consultant.
