PSL club fined for threatening to bewitch a match official
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and a club official have been charged by the PSL DC for threatening violence and to bewitch a match official.
The incident took place during the 2-1 defeat by rivals Venda Football Academy during a National First Division; Motsepe Foundation match on 27 January 2023.
Lavhelesani Mukomafhedzi, who is a kit manager, harassed the match officials after the match.
The official had to be pulled back by other members of his own team.
But, he later verbally abused and threatened the official that he would bewitch him and also took samples of the soil of which that match official waked for the purposes of muti.
PSL CLUB TTM APPEAR BEFORE THE DC
The club appeared before the DC on Thursday, represented by their legal team and pleaded guilty to the charges.
“The spectators of the first respondent which is the club also pointed missiles at the direction of the match official as they were being escorted to safety by security,” said PSL Prosecutor Zola Majavu in a statement.
“Upon receipt of the charge sheet which I referred against them, their legal representatives indicated that they would be pleading guilty as charged. Followed by a written plea which was put out before the DC. The prosecutor accepted the plea which was later converted into a conviction.
THE PSL DC RULING
“The DC ruled as follows, 1. With regard to the first respondent which is the club, they were fined a monetary amount of R 100 000 of which R 50 00 is suspended on condition that during the period of 12 months they are not found guilty of the same offence.
“With regard to the second responded, meaning the official of the club. He was fined R 80 000, R 40 000 suspended for 12 months on the same conditions. Meaning effectively between the two respondents they would have to pay a monetary sum of R 90 000.
“Thirdly, both respondents were directed to send a written apology to the league. As well as the match official and to ensure that such apology is carried on their club official website,”
“The DC further issued a three match suspension to Mr Lavheleseni. Meaning that for the next three matches under the hospices of the league he would expected to sit them out. Lastly the two respondents were ordered to pay the cost of the DC hearing.
