Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter came to the defense of his players over what seemed like muted celebrations during the Nedbank Cup win against Liver Brothers.
The DStv Premiership side were drawn against a SAB regional league club.
A fixture that looked easier than the rest of the last 32 matches. The results were also evident as Babina Noko registered a 6-0 win.
The Sekhukhune players didn’t seem excited when they scored with no intentions to celebrate.
SEKHUKHUNE WANTED TO SHOW OPPONENTS RESPECT
“I think our boys celebrated. But also it was five and six nil as well so we didn’t want to be disrespectful of these youngsters we are developing here,” said Truter.
“So we also don’t want to break them down so we cooled off a bit with the celebrations so that we didn’t embarrass the youngsters.
FRUSTRATIONS ON PLAYING LOWER DIVISION TEAMS IN NEDBANK CUP
“What is tricky about coming up against lower division teams playing PSL teams is that they want to showcase their talent and they always want to use you as an opportunity to expand their brand.
“So you are always up against it and PSL teams losing or bowing out to a lower division team is always going to be embarrassing.
BRANDON TRUTER STILL CONCERNED ABOUT TACTICAL DISCIPLINE
“The other thing that we wanted to do in this game was to get the right intensity. Against Gallants we didn’t get it right but tonight we got it right and we scored within the first 15 minutes.
“That put a bit of relief and pressure off us. But from there the tactical discipline got out of the window, so I think a lack of discipline made us look very ordinary and disorganized and that was a bit frustrating to watch.”
Sekhukhune will be back in action in the DStv Premiership on Saturday, 18 February against Richards Bay.
