Why Sundowns Ladies might sign a striker for the new campaign

Sundowns Ladies head coach Jerry Tshabalala has hinted at why Sundowns might add a new striker for the new Hollywoodbets Super League season.

On Wednesday, 8 February, in match-day two of the Hollywoodbets Super League between Sundowns and Ma-indies Ladies. Banyana Ba Style suffered a blow to their striking department in the first half of the game.

The Sundowns striker, Miche Minnies had to be stretched off the pitch after suffering an injury in the 39th minute to her ankle.

Minnies could not continue with the game. After half time, the forward came back from the dressing room on a stretcher with a band aid and ice on her ankle, as it appeared she could not walk on her own.

After the game, the Sundowns head coach, Tshabalala did not have much intel about the injury, but hoped it wasn’t anything serious.

Tshabalala also hinted on strengthening their striking department for the new season.

TSHABALALA ON MINNIES INJURY AND SIGNING A NEW STRIKER FOR SUNDOWNS

“So far I don’t have anything, but I am hoping it is not something serious because we you can also see that we don’t have depth up front,” Tshabalala told FARPost.

“We are still trying to recruit one or two top strikers that can come and put the ball at the back of the net.”

Despite needing a new striker, Tshabalala was also pleased with the performance of the two substitutes he brought in during first half.

The two forwards, Melinda Kgadiete, who came on for Minnies, and Lelona Daweti, who was a normal substitute in the 28th for Lerato Kgasago, scored the second and third goals for Sundowns, respectively.

“Kgadiete and Daweti, when I brought them in, both of them they scored. So it tells you that the subs [substitutes] that we made we right,” he added.

“We need something, we need a goal-poacher upfront, and they made a huge difference,” concluded Tshabalalala.
