Pirates loanee Thabiso Sesane on how it felt to face Bucs
“I can say that it [the game] was personal to me because I wanted to win."
Orlando Pirates loanee Thabiso Sesane has revealed how it felt to face his parent club in the Nedbank Cup.
Sesane put in a good shift in defence for Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars when they tackled Pirates in the Nedbank Cup last 32 on Saturday evening at Wits Stadium.
The 22-year-old defender says coming up against Orlando Pirates was ‘personal’ but insists he wasn’t proving a point as the Soweto giants loaned him out to All Stars in the second-tier league.
However, Sesane states that he went into the game with the mindset of playing his own game.
SESANE EXPLAINS EMOTIONS OF FACING PIRATES
“I can say that it [the game] was personal to me because I wanted to win, and they also wanted to win,” said Sesane.
“But it happened, they won [Pirates], so we will work hard going forward.”
Sesane came through the Pirates development structures, and also made his way to the first team in the 2020/21 season.
However, Sesane did not get a lot of minutes with the first team. But whenever he was given the chance, he showed glimpses of why he got promoted to the first team.
Sesane spent the last two seasons on loan in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with Jomo Cosmos and now All Stars.
Even though his side could not progress to the next round of the Nedbank Cup, Sesane impressed many with his stellar fight against Pirates.
He further explained that his intention heading into the Pirates game was to play to the best of his ability to ensure that his team walked away victories.
“I was not proving a point; I was playing the football that I know only,” he declared.
“If they [Pirates] call me back then I will go, But for now, my focus is with my team [All Stars].”
