Mamelodi Sundowns appoint set-piece coach

Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the appointment of Michael Loftman as the club’s new set-piece coach.

Loftman joins DStv Premiership side, Sundowns after parting ways with National First Divsion side Venda Football Academy almost five months ago. 

He also served as Orlando Pirates’ Multichoice Diski Challenge [DDC] coach in 2018. 

According to the Tshwane giants, the appointment was made in an effort to raise the bar including a specialist to the technical team.

“All elite sport is about gaining small margins. Replays and restarts are a significant part of modern-day football.

“And are even more crucial when playing in the CAF Champions League,” read Sundowns’ statement. 

“The experienced coach and performance data analyst will work on the pitch and compile analytic data to provide information to improve an important part of the game.”

Loftman comes in highly-rated as he holds a UEFA A license from the English FA and a Sports Science and Coaching Masters Degree from Brunel University.

FLEMING BERG WELCOMES MICHAEL LOFTMAN 

“We are very happy to have Michael and add his competencies to the experienced and highly qualified technical team,” said the club’s sporting director, Flemming Berg. 

Loftman has already hit the ground running and his work is expected to speak for itself.

Sundowns are set to travel to Cameroon for its Ground B CAF Champions League second encounter. 

Bafana Ba Style will go head-to-head with Coton Sport Garoua on Friday, 17 February 2023. 

And the former Bucs’ DDC coach will travel with the team to Cameroon. 

The Brazilians began their Champions League journey with a 1-0 win over Al Hilal this past weekend. 

Rulani Mokwena’s side are currently top of Group B with three points after one game. 

Masandawana will be gunning to achieve its ultimate goal of qualifying for the knockout phase.

With God’s grace, the side can possibly win the tournament which they last won in 2016.
