Marshall Munetsi makes another passionate plea for Zimbabwean footballers

"As things stand we continue to lose a generation of talented footballers."

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Marshall Munetsi has again made a passionate plea to Zimbabwean football authorities to let bygones be bygones and have the FIFA ban lifted.

The Zimbabwean star has been lobbying the Sports and Recreation Commission [SRC] and the Zimbabwe Football Association [ZIFA] to bury the hatchet.

This came after ZIFA’s president Felton Kamambo and his entire executive were removed from office by the SRC. And the ban was imposed in November 2021.

The committee was suspended on the pretext that they were perpetuating corruption among other charges.

Moreso the country has missed several continental and regional tournaments at club and national team level.

The draw for the 2026 World cup qualifiers to be conducted. And Munetsi has poured out his heart on how Zimbabwean footballers have been shortchanged.

Zimbabwe is again set to miss the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

WHAT MARSHALL MUNETSI SAID

“As we approach the next set of qualifiers, as football players, we are reminded that our national teams remains banned,” Munetsi posted on Facebook.

“This reminder cascades down to the the fans as well. They can’t enjoy the national teams they love to watch playing.

“As things stand we continue to lose a generation of talented footballers. Sadly they do not have opportunities to showcase their talent.”

Munetsi expressed worry that the future of Zimbabwean football is under serious threat.

“This situation continue to harm the future of football in the country. It is depriving the community of the downstream benefits that football can bring to the social economy of the nation. 

“I continue to implore to the SRC and ZIFA urging all the parties involved to find common ground. They need to come with an amicable solution that will allow our football to survive.

“Our football needs us to find each other for us to move in one direction and speak with one voice. The partitipation of our country at major tournaments stands to benefit us more.”
