Chippa United seal Nedbank Cup last 16 spot

Chippa United were the last club to confirm their place in the Nedbank Cup last 16 round. This follows a 3-1 win on penalties against Polokwane City at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Chilli Boys were up against an in-form Polokwane side that is currently top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Rise and Shine had only lost once in their last 11 games coming into the match.

Their form was evident as they found the back of the net as early as the third minute through forward Francis Baloyi. But the visitors found an equaliser after an own goal by Bulelani Nikani in the 12th minute.

POLOKWANE GIVES CHIPPA UNITED A GOOD FIGHT

“I was clear to the players and said, Polokwane City are not coming here to play,” said Chippa coach Morgan Mammila.

“They are coming to fight because a team that comes with excitement has nothing to lose and it’s a motivation to play the so-called big teams. One thing for sure they are a team that is doing very well. Very fit, speedy and they know how to cool down and go back to speed again.
