Banyana captain sympathises with Turkish people ahead of Turkish Women’s Cup

Banyana Banyana’s captain, Refiloe Jane, has expressed her sympathy for the thousands of Turkish people who were affected by the horrific earthquake that left Turkey distraught.

Banyana are about to start their journey in the Turkish Women’s Cup, on Saturday, 18 February, in a country that is currently recovering from an earthquake aftermath, Turkey.

On 6 February, Turkey and Syria experienced a horrific earthquake that took away thousands of lives and injured people.

Many other people remain missing from the aftermath of the earthquake until this day.

However, despite the horror that Turkey experienced in the last few days, FIFA gave a green light for the tournament to continue.

The South African women’s national team captain, Jane, has poured out her heart to everyone affected by the earthquake in Turkey.

Jane also told the Banyana’s media department that despite the misfortunes that the Turkey nation currently faces, the locals have been nothing but welcoming to the team since their arrival in Turkey earlier this week.

Jane also expressed her gratitude to the Turkish officials for still allowing the tournament to go on, despite the distraught the nation currently faces.

“Since we have arrived here in Turkey, the reception has been very good from the locals. And even where we are staying right now at the hotel, the staff has been good to us,” said Jane.

“Even when we get to training, the treatment has been good. We know the challenges that Turkey is facing at the moment, we sympathise with them.

“And we feel very grateful that they still afford us the chance to be here and to play this kind of tournament.
“And have this kind of preparations for the journey ahead, and we are not taking that for granted.

“So far, everything has been going very well, and we are feel very grateful towards the Turkish people for having us here in their home country, despite what they have facing,” concluded Jane.
