Ex-Chiefs striker Luke Petros set for new challenge

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Luke Petros is set to be re-deployed to another Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services side in the lower tier division.

Petros failed to help WhaWha retain their place in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League last season.

His failure was, however, attributed to the club’s lack of financial resources.

WhaWha spent the whole season fixated at the basement of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

In fact, they were the league’s punching bag, having lost 22 times out of 34 games. They won and drew six times apiece.

To his credit, WhaWha unleashed a number of youngsters that have been the most sought-after players this year.

These include Jayden Barake and Calum English Brown, who have already been signed by Dynamos and Chicken Inn respectively.

ANOTHER GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR LUKE PETROS

However, the club leadership have decided to combine WhaWha and one of their teams, Tenax, as a cost-cutting measure.

FARPost has it on good authority that Petros is set to be named the team’s head coach.

This means Petros will relocate to the City of Mutare, where he will compete for promotion in the Eastern Region.

It remains to be seen if the decision will help ensure the team’s longevity if they are promoted again.

This is also another chance for Petros to prove himself following a failed maiden stint as head coach.

He is not the only former Kaizer Chiefs forward that has made positive strides in coaching in Zimbabwe.

Tinashe Nengomasha is currently the team manager at Ngezi Platinum Stars in the top-flight league.

Former defender Thomas Sweswe is the secretary-general for the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe [FUZ].

Gilbert Mushangazhike and Stuart Murisa are the only other former DStv Premiership players coaching in Zimbabwe.
