Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila change to Celtic’s traditional green
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila have explained their decision to change their home colours from the original blue to now green.
TTM are set to play the first of their PSL home matches in Mangaung, Free State, on Saturday, following their relocation earlier this month. The club has used the blue and red colours since their formation in 2018.
But surprisingly, on Friday, they announced that they will now use green and white colours. The colours are synonymous with the now-defunct Bloemfontein Celtic, who used to play in the province. This was before they sold their status to Royal AM.
“Firstly, as everyone knows that we are here in Mangaung now. So we decided that the club should change the colours to those of Bloemfontein,” team manager Azwihangwisi Phasha explained to FARPost.
“The club has relocated to Bloemfontein, and the nature of Bloemfontein is known for green and white. So we decided that our colours should change to the culture of the province.”
DO THEY INTEND TO REPLACE BLOEMFONTEIN CELTIC?
“I can’t touch much on that one, but we are trying to revive the culture of the province, to be specific. That is why we change the colours to green and white.”
ON HOW TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIVHANDILA HAS BEEN RECEIVED IN MANGAUNG
“It has been massive and impressive. We had a warm welcome in Bloemfontein. Though the first week it was raining and the second week it was our favourable weather that we are normally used to.”
They play their first match at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium when they host high-flying Casric Stars on Saturday. Casric are the Motsepe Foundation Championship log leaders.
“This match against Casric won’t be easy. They have been winning in eight consecutive matches, and they are on top of the log. We are down there fighting for our lives, so it will be a very interesting game and won’t be easy.”
