City add to Leopards’ woes, Spurs closes the gap at the top

Polokwane City added to Black Leopards’ woes as they defeated them on Sunday to stretch their winless run.

On the other hand, Cape Town Spurs kept their hopes of automatic qualification alive as they returned to winning ways.

Polokwane City’s 2-0 win over struggling Leopards saw them climb to the summit of the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 37 points at par with Casric Stars.

Leopards are now winless in 15 matches. They have recorded eight draws and suffered seven defeats and sit rock bottom with 13 points from 18 encounters.

Shaun Bartlett-coached Cape Town Spurs returned to winning ways on Friday as they saw off Uthongathi FC 1-0 away from home. The victory raised the Capetonians to third on the table with 34 points from 18 matches.

OTHER MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

Table toppers Casric were held to a one-all draw by Bloemfontein’s new boys Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

Stars were coming from an impressive victory against Baroka last time out, while TTM were coming from a loss to Platinum City. The stalemate saw Casric’s lead at the summit of the log reduce to zero points.

JDR Stars stunned Magesi FC 2-1 to return to winning ways. The win on the road saw Stars climb to fourth, whilst Magesi remained at the bottom half of the table positioned 10th.

Baroka got the Limpopo derby bragging rights as they defeated Venda Football Academy 3-1. The loss was Venda’s second in a row in the league. On the other end, Bakgakga ended a two-match winless run.

Pretoria Callies and Platinum City played out to a dull nil-all draw. Both teams couldn’t convert their chances and find the back of the net during the 90 minutes.

La Masia and University of Pretoria collected maximum points. They defeated Hungry Lions and All stars FC  2-0 and 3-1, respectively.

Both La Masia and Ama Tuks are on a two-match winning streak, while All Stars are winless in three, and Lions has only one victory in three.
