Sundowns goalkeeper reveals after retirement plans
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has revealed that he will pursue becoming a coach once he retires from playing football.
Mweene, the decorated shot stopper is nearing the end of his playing career as he is aged 38.
This season in the DStv Premiership he has struggled for game time with Sundowns since the arrival of Ronwen Williams and with the stiff competition from Denis Onyango and Reyaad Pieterse.
The Bafana Bafana goalie, Williams, has been the club’s first choice, featuring both on the domestic scene and in Africa.
MWEENE’S PLANS AFTER RETIRING
“I’ve always wanted to be a goalkeeper coach. It’s something I will always consider after retiring but at the moment i’m still a player ,” Mweene told the media.
“Not only in South Africa but also in my country we crying about goalkeepers. When we retire,e we try to be head coaches and assistant coaches forgeting that we have a lot of experience to give back to the upcoming players.
“It’s very important that most of us who are towards the end of our careers do coaching courses so that at the end we don’t cry the same.
MWEENE’S FIRST IMPRESSION OF BEING A GOALKEEPER COACH
Mweene further shared his experience after sitting on the bench for the first time as a goalkeeper coach against Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership.
“I did enjoy and i grabbed it with both hands. I came in because coach Wendell Robinson was suspended, I was asked to help which I did.
“For me, it wasn’t difficult, there were familiar faces with me and people I talk to now and then. It was nothing hectic to do. For me, it was something business as usual,” he added.
